Candles are everywhere right now and honestly, we love to see it. But with so many options out there, it is really easy to grab something that looks beautiful, smells great in the store, and burns out in three days leaving a cloud of mystery soot behind.
Been there? Same. Hence why I created Relit Yourself ,but I have some tips on what to actually look for before you buy.
1. What is the wax made of?
If the label just says “wax blend” and leaves it there, that is your first red flag. A quality candle will tell you exactly what is in it. Look for 100% soy, beeswax, or coconut wax. These burn cleaner, last longer, and are better for your home environment.
2. What kind of wick is it?
Cotton wicks are your best friend. They burn steadily and produce minimal soot. Avoid anything with a metal core, and if the brand does not mention their wick at all, that tells you something.
3. What is actually in the fragrance?
This is the one most people skip entirely. The word “fragrance” on a label can legally cover hundreds of undisclosed ingredients. Look for brands that specifically call out phthalate-free and paraben-free fragrance oils. If they are proud of their ingredients, they will say so.
4. Is it hand-poured in small batches?
This is not just a cute marketing line. Small batch candles are made with more care and attention than mass produced ones. The scent throw, the burn consistency, the finish …it all shows.
5. Does the brand actually stand behind their product?
Reviews, transparency, ingredients listed clearly on the site. A brand that cares about what they make will make it easy for you to find out exactly what you are buying.
